Community Services

AXA China Region has demonstrated commitment to the society. We play a active role in participating extensive charitable activities and community services to create a better society.

Jun - Oct 2007

AXA joined forces with the Hong Kong Physically Handicapped and Able-bodied Association (“PHAB”) to organise a series of art creation and voluntary initiatives. The ultimate aimed was to help physically challenged people and retirees to become more “life confident”.

The programme, one of the cornerstones of PHAB’s landmark 35th anniversary, saw several AXA Hong Kong subsidiaries sponsor a series of art workshops. Held between June and September, 2007, these activities brought together not only AXA and PHAB team members, but also members and supporters of other retirees’ associations. The impressive end result of these efforts was a 16-17 October, 2007, exhibition at Hong Kong Central Library that showcased over 200 exhibits from physically challenged and retired local artists. Sit Tung, Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Social Welfare Department, and AXA Hong Kong CEO, John Cai, were delighted to officiate as Guests of Honour at the Exhibition’s Grand Opening.

To help increase the programme’s effectiveness, PHAB and AXA recruited volunteers from an increasingly important group in local society – Hong Kong retirees. Said AXA China Region Insurance Company Limited, CEO, John Cai: “Retirement shouldn’t be viewed as being the end of one’s useful and productive life. As average life expectancy in Hong Kong is steadily increasing all the time, retirees are fast becoming a powerful voice in local society. If people start planning earlier and better, it is highly likely that they can enjoy a very active and fulfilling retirement.” PHAB’s ultimate aim in adding retirees to its remit was to encourage elderly people to use their talents to better serve society as a whole.

Nov 2004
The "AXA Challenge 2004", jointly organized by the Hong Kong Physically Handicapped and Able-Bodied Association (PHAB) and AXA was held on 14th November 2004 at Lok Fu Shopping Centre. AXA is strongly committed to participating in community events that serve the public. This activity was designed to promote health awareness and the
benefits of regular exercise to the public. The event featured a workshop on "Suen Tai Chi" (developed in Australia but based on the traditional Chinese practice Tai Chi), which was chosen to demonstrate how regular, gentle exercise can have a positive impact on arthritis sufferers, those with disabilities or chronic illness and elderly people.

The programme organisers acknowledged that, although regular exercise is essential for all ages and abilities, those with physical disabilities and chronic illness find it much more challenging to achieve even a 30 minute walk a day, which can improve and maintain cardiovascular and respiratory functions. "Suen Tai Chi" has a much lower physical impact on the practitioner but can still have a positive impact on health. AXA staff, agents and volunteer participants spent three months training as "Suen Tai Chi" practitioners in order to deliver workshops to elderly and disabled persons in rehabilitation centres and special schools.

Jan 2003
To support "AXA Challenge 2002", staff and agents from Macau office organized "AXA Philanthropic Day 2003". The event was a fun fair day with game booths, health talks and gift packs were distributed to elderly and people in need.
