AXA Macau is committed to supporting the community by providing comprehensive protection for the people of Macau. As the impact of the novel coronavirus continues to escalate, the company is offering additional hospital cash benefits for free, premium refund for travel insurance and extension of the grace period for premium payments to its eligible Macau customers. In addition, AXA Macau is providing free hospital benefit and death benefit coverage relating to the novel coronavirus to all eligible medical workers of Serviços de Saúde de Macau, enabling them to focus more on fighting the virus.

“AXA Macau has been walking alongside Macau citizens for over 30 years. During this critical period now in the fight against the virus, safeguarding the health of Macau people is our paramount concern. As a responsible corporate citizen, we have enhanced the coverage of medical and travel insurance. We also understand that the outbreak of the novel coronavirus has put front-line medical workers under intense pressure. Therefore, we have launched a special programme to offer free coverage on the virus for front-line medical workers. We are providing them with additional coverage and protection in appreciation of their dedication to saving lives and preserving the wellbeing of the people of Macau.”

In keeping with its role as a trusted partner to its customers, the company has also enhanced the policy coverage and services for customers in response to the novel coronavirus*:

  • Additional hospital cash benefit: If insured persons with AXA Macau Life Insurance or Medical policies, or insured employees and dependents of Employee Benefits hospitalisation policies, are hospitalised due to a confirmed case of novel coronavirus infection, AXA will provide an additional daily hospital cash benefit of HKD700 for a period of up to 45 days (from now until 30 April 2020), without a waiting period.
  • Premium refund for travel insurance due to cancellation of trip
  • If your original trip to Mainland China is cancelled, you can apply for a premium refund for the travel insurance purchased.
  • If your trip is cancelled due to your entry-visa being rejected, destination country flight ban or immigration ban for Macau travellers, you can apply for a premium refund for the travel insurance purchased.
  • If you contract the novel coronavirus while travelling abroad, you can claim eligible medical expenses.
  • AXA Macau extends the grace period of the premium payment from 30 days to 90 days for all policies of its customers#.

Moreover, the AXA ‘Protect the Frontline’ Programme provides free protection for eligible medical workers[1], with details as follows:

# Applicable to the premiums of all AXA Macau customers’ policies which will expire from 1 December 2019 to 30 June 2020.

[1] All permanent full-time, permanent part-time and contract staff (excluding temporary and outsourcing contractors) who are employed by Serviços de Saúde de Macau are eligible persons for the Programme (“Eligible Person”). The identity of the Eligible Person (being the insured person) should be validated by AXA.

[2] Each Eligible Person does not need to register or enrol for the coverage. Each Eligible Person is only entitled to the hospital benefit and death benefit for once respectively at maximum.

[3] If an Eligible Person:

(i) is diagnosed with novel coronavirus by the government of Macau and is confined in a hospital during the Hospital Benefit Protection Period, AXA shall pay out a one-off lump sum payment of hospital benefit of HKD10,000; and/or

(ii) is diagnosed with novel coronavirus by the government of Macau and such novel coronavirus and its complications result in death during the Death Benefit Protection Period, AXA shall pay out the death benefit to the Eligible Person’s estate. The benefit payable under the death benefit is HKD100,000.

[4] The protection period of the hospital benefit is from 10 February 2020 to 30 April 2020 (both dates inclusive) (“Hospital Benefit Protection Period”). The protection period of death benefit means within 60 days from the date of diagnosis of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) (“novel coronavirus”) during the Hospital Benefit Protection Period (“Death Benefit Protection Period”).
