Currently, pre-existing conditions unknown to applicants are commonly excluded from benefit coverage. Patients without a much-needed protection would be understandably distressed. Fortunately, The Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (“VHIS”) is here aiming to help you avoid such situation with a coverage on unknown pre-existing condition.

Under VHIS, even if your pre-existing condition that you were not aware of at the time you applied for your policy, your eligible medical expenses will still be covered according to the table below, so that you can stop worrying about money and start focusing on recovery:

  • First Policy Year: No coverage
  • Second Policy Year: 25% reimbursement
  • Third Policy Year: 50% reimbursement
  • Fourth Policy Year onwards: full coverage

What is the definition of unknown pre-existing conditions?

“Unknown Pre-existing Conditions”, shall mean, in respect of an insured person, any sickness, disease, injury, physical, mental or medical condition or physiological degradation, including congenital condition, that has existed prior to the policy issuance date or the policy effective date, whichever is the earlier. An ordinary prudent person shall be reasonably aware of a pre-existing condition where:

  • it has been diagnosed;
  • it has manifested clear and distinct signs or symptoms; or
  • medical advice or treatment has been sought, recommended or received
